2. Understand puff counts
A “30K” or “50K” label is the manufacturer’s maximum estimate under ideal conditions, usually the device’s lowest power mode. Real-world use lands well below it. What actually determines how long a disposable lasts is the e-liquid capacity in milliliters and how often you use the boost or pulse mode. As a rule of thumb, 1 mL of liquid gives roughly 300 to 600 puffs depending on the coil and mode. Compare devices on mL first, puffs second.
3. Nicotine strength
- 5% (50 mg/mL) nicotine salt: the standard for US disposables and prefilled pods. Strong, smooth, meant for low-power devices only.
- 2% to 3% (20 to 30 mg/mL): gentler option for lighter smokers; common in international and “lite” versions.
- 0% (nicotine free): same flavor and hardware without nicotine.

- Battery (mAh): bigger is better for all-day use. Disposables run 650 to 1,500 mAh; pod systems 800 to 1,500 mAh; box mods use one or two 18650 or 21700 cells (often sold separately).
- Coil: mesh coils heat evenly and give fuller flavor than wire coils. “Dual mesh” is now standard on large disposables.
- Charging: look for USB-C. Anything that only charges a few times or uses micro-USB is dated.
- Airflow: adjustable airflow lets you tune between a tight, cigarette-like draw and an airy, cloudy one.
- Display: screens that show battery and liquid level remove the guesswork about when a device is about to die.
- Activation: draw-activated is simplest. Button firing gives more control and stops accidental firing in a pocket.

5. Compatibility
Pods and coils are brand and series specific. Uwell Caliburn G pods do not fit a Caliburn A, and Vaporesso XROS pods only fit XROS devices. Check the exact series name on the product page before buying refills. “Pod-based disposables” such as the Foger Switch Pro or Lost Mary Nera use a reusable battery and replaceable prefilled pods; make sure you buy pods for the same model.
6. Care and battery safety
- Charge with a low-power USB brick or computer port, not a fast charger, and never leave a device charging overnight.
- Keep devices out of direct sun and hot cars. Lithium cells degrade quickly above 45 °C / 113 °F.
- For mods with removable 18650 or 21700 cells, use a battery case, keep wraps intact and never carry loose cells with keys or coins.
- Prime new coils by letting liquid soak for five minutes before firing.
- Dispose of dead devices at an electronics or battery recycling point. Do not put lithium batteries in household trash.

- Buying on puff count alone instead of mL capacity and battery size.
- Using 50 mg nicotine salt in a sub-ohm tank.
- Chain-vaping a disposable in boost mode, then reporting it as “defective” when it runs out early.
